Collab/Official Alternate Outfits

A page to collect all of the official art releases featuring the squad in alternate outfits.

The creation of this page spun off of my attempt to make a page cataloguing all of their merchandise. That page is postponed at the moment, but I thought it may be both doable and useful to make a place to quickly see all of the alternate outfits they have been given, for reference when making fanart and the like. Goodness knows I'm always losing track of my reference material of these outfits, so it'll help me out at the very least....

This page doesn't currently include the Popoon, Yumtea or Sleepless Lottery releases (all of these will be on the full list of merchandise page eventually), because those are just their canon outfits but holding an accessory, or their canon outfits but missing a piece. But it's pretty arbitrary, so maybe I'll eventually change my mind and put them on here.

Artwork is organized roughly in order of announcement/release, but since some releases came in multiple waves, it is somewhat imprecise. Additional notes will be added in the future as well as better quality images as I obtain them. Feel free to contact me with input or relevant information.

Gunma Safari Park event Vueko

Official title: 「メイドインアビス 烈日の黄金郷」×「群馬サファリパーク」
Link:
Release date (approx): fall 2022

Notes: From the era of merchandising where the only member of Ganja-tai included in things tended to be Vueko, and s2 goods releases were often "here's new art of Reg, Riko, Nanachi, Faputa and Vueko. There are no other important people in the Ganja squad, shh." This was the first time Vueko got an alternate outfit for one of those releases. She is dressed in a guinea pig hat and safari tour guide outfit (her outfit may be what workers wear at Gunma Safari Park...?)
The second photo above is from ((link tweet by seiyuu))

Neworder Table/Collabo Hit Cafe Vueko

Official title: 「メイドインアビス 烈日の黄金郷」カフェ
Links: Link 1, Link 2
Release date (approx): November-December 2022

Notes: At this collaboration cafe, not only were there goods with new art of Vueko, there was also a Vueko drink that you could order, a grenadine soda with lemon and mint. Please take note of Vueko's decorated cake featuring Irumyuui and the hermit rat!

Charaum Cafe outfits

Notes: This cafe's menu featured a chance to drink the mockwater (!), as well as a soup and salad plate titled after Ganja-tai and an Irumyuui-themed mille-feuille. hateBe fans could also enjoy eating pot Mitty...
--This artwork made a coloring mistake with Belaf's ear!
--At the time, I jokingly referred to this Wazukyan as "ouji shorts Wazukyan", but this was mostly just for fun. I don't think the style influence is actually intended to be that specific. I could be wrong, though! Let me know if you think this outfit is intended to evoke a specific style or look! Also, fans got a lot of amusement at imagining Wazukyan's leg hair showing...
Vueko is holding a brown rose, which symbolizes warmth and stability. Wazukyan is holding blue and purple phlox, which symbolize wisdom and spirituality. Belaf is holding a peach rose, which symbolizes sincerity and gratitude. (Another shoutout to Bard for deciphering the flower language there.)

The Chara Shop ("Wizard") outfits

Usagiza Lepus outfits

Notes: the outfits in this release are inspired by Taisho era clothing from Japan. (I learned these were Taisho era clothes because various users mentioned it on Twitter.) Belaf is wearing a style of outfit commonly associated with students who lived in wealthy houses and performed odd jobs in exchange for room and board, while Wazukyan is wearing a Panama hat, which became popular in Japan at this time. The artist for the release also mentioned on Twitter that their concept for Belaf, Vueko, Irumyuui and Faputa here originally involved 'the parents of twin girls'. (I may be misremembering the wording slightly.) If anyone has more specific information about specific garments they are wearing、 or links to outfits or styles that are particularly similar to the others' clothing the way 書生スタイル outfits resemble Belaf's, I would also appreciate being sent these.

Bakudan Yaki collab

Notes: This collab features everyone preparing giant takoyaki for sale at Bakudan Yaki while wearing the aprons of that store. Concerningly, Belaf seems to be touching piping-hot takoyaki while bare handed. We're all worried about you, Belaf, please stop doing things like this.

Alice in Wonderland collab

Cleaned and upscaled images provided by BardOfLight! Thanks a ton! ((removing these for the moment to look into watermarking))

Vueko is the Dormouse with the tail and ears of the animal in question, take a look if you haven't seen a dormouse before. With their gooey, sleepy eyes, this may be the perfect Vueko animal. Irumyuui is the March Hare, and the teacup she holds matches the teapot lid that Vueko has (also Vue's scarf). Wazukyan is the Queen of Hearts (I mean, you could say he defaults to being a 'King of Hearts', but the Queen of Hearts is the character iconically prone to ordering the dismemberment of children...) Belaf is a card soldier, bearing some of the roses that the Queen is so hung up on having painted the right color.

The Alice images were originally released as silhouettes(insert link to announcement tweet), leading to a great deal of spirited speculation among fans as to who would be each character; detailed observation of the silhouettes allowed fans to make correct guesses about the identities of pretty much everyone except Belaf, partly because it was hard to tell anything from that silhouette and partly because we didn't foresee that unlike literally everyone else poor Belaf would not be given a named and specific individual character. At the time I firmly believed Belaf would be the Caterpillar.

Holding a Plushie

(adding Nanachi and hateBe next)

Notes:
This is one of the handful of art releases that got an official name other than just the shop or company being collaborated with -- "Together with Plushie" (Nui to Isshou), listed on English language dealer sites as "Holding a Plushie". Comically, Belaf and Vueko don't seem to exist as living beings in this universe, but at least they get to be two plushies each. Meanwhile none of the Ganja lot who appeared as themselves (Irumyuui, Pakkoyan, and Wazukyan) appear as even a single plushie. It might have been nice for Faputa to get an Irumyuui plushie. She gets a plushie of her other two Hakus and is a special person entitled to have three Hakus, so she should get three plushies. But she doesn't have one...
By the way, people across multiple languages of fandom keep independantly calling these white clothes 'cult outfits'. :P

Volks Pop-up ("Swiss outfits")

Notes: for art reference searching purposes, the outfits worn by Waz and Be appear to be inspired by traditional men's clothing from the Appenzell region and the dress worn by Vue appears to be inspired by traditional dresses from Bern. I learned about these regional clothing styles myself after research (this page was very helpful), but originally had no clue the outfits were even Swiss -- that fact was identified by other twitter users.

Flower Shop outfits

Notes: (flower language notes go here!!!) (further information forthcoming)
